The ESOS Framework
The ESOS Framework refers to the laws and regulations of the Australian Government regarding quality education and consumer protection to ensure that international students enjoy a safe environment while living and studying in Australia and a rewarding study experience.
This Framework includes –
CRICOS Registration
An education provider in Australia can enrol international students only if the provider and the course are listed on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). This register is designed to protect international students and maintain high quality education offered to students. You should check that the institution, its location and courses that you wish to attend are listed on CRICOS.
Student Protection
The ESOS Framework protects students by ensuring that –
- you can obtain current and accurate information about the courses and their mode of study, their fees, and other relevant information
- you have a detailed written agreement before paying fees
- you receive a refund or placed in another similar course if the provider is not able to deliver the agreed course
- there is a process for applying for credit towards a course
- you are provided with details of the requirements for satisfactory progress
- there are rules covering deferral, suspension or cancelation of courses
- there is a process for changing providers
- you have access to welfare support services
- you are provided with contact officers
- you have access to a complaints and appeals process
Student Responsibilities
The ESOS Framework also makes clear the responsibilities of international students.
- Meet visa conditions
- Maintain Overseas Health Cover (OSHC)
- Meet written agreement terms
- Advise provider of a change of living address
- Maintain satisfactory course progress
- Meet any class attendance requirement.
